On the occasion of the celebration of the 74th UN Day, a conference debate was organized by the Ministry of External Relations (MINREX) at the campus of the Institute of International Relations of Cameroon (IRIC), this Monday, October 21, 2019 from 2 pm to 5 pm, with the theme: “Pooling of peace efforts for sustainable development: the role of Cameroon in the field of international peace and security”. After the welcoming words of the Director of IRIC, the solemn opening of the conference was made by the Secretary General of MINREX, representing HE the Minister of Foreign Relations.
During this conference, Brigadier General André Patrice BITOTE, as speaker, oriented his presentation on the theme “Role played by EIFORCES in the permanent reinforcement of the capacities of the Cameroonian troops for peace operations, and their link with the United Nations standards”.
Thus, having given the raison d’être of the EIFORCES which is, as a reminder, the strategic need to bridge the capacity gap between the police force and the armed forces in the theater of peace support operations, Brigadier General BITOTE returned to the doctrine and the operational of the institution, based on the UN standards. One of the key perspectives is the announcement by the Speaker of the training of 250 female Cameroonian Security Forces personnel at EIFORCES over the next two years, through the United Nations Development Program.
Another highlight is the presentation by Professor MVOMO ELA Wullson, Head of the EIFORCES Research and Documentation Center and IRIC lecturer, on ” Cameroon in geopolitics and geostrategy of peacekeeping operations: retrospective and prospective approach”.
Professor Jean Emmanuel PONDI, Vice Rector in charge of Cooperation and Business Relations at the University of Yaoundé I, provided for the moderation of the so-called conference. Other speakers were: HE Jacques Roger BOOH BOOH, former Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Rwanda in 1994; Mrs MENGUE Valery from UNFEMMES; Colonel NGANDE KINDY Guillaume, commander of the Amphibious Special Battalion and first Commander of MISCA and MINUSCA in the Central African Republic.
